Once again, Brandilyn Collins takes us on a roller coaster ride of mystery and suspense. Vain Empires is a slight departure from her usual settings as it takes place in a tropical paradise; however, all of the key elements we love from Brandilyn Collins is there: fast-paced plotting, memorable characters, cliffhanger chapters, elements of faith, consequences of sin, and edge of your seat suspense. I was hooked from page one and found myself playing along with all of the reality show contestants. While I have guessed some of the endings of Brandilyn Collins' books, this one stumped me throughout and I loved the nice twist at the end. I thought this book did a great job focusing on secret sins in our lives and how it can affect our relationships and the way we live. This was definitely one of my favorite books by the author and I eagerly await the next one of hers I read.
