5 Stars Out Of 5!
“Only if you listen closely, and you want to, can you hear when crickets cry.”
“Every heart has two parts, the part that pumps and the part that loves. If you’re going to spend your life fixing broken hearts, then learn about both. You can’t just fix the one with no concern for the other.”
“The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched; they must be felt with the heart.”
Once again, Charles Martin has written a book that has kept my interest and also produced some heart wrenching and heartwarming moments. Not many books bring me to tears but somehow every Pat Conroy and Charles Martin book seem to do just that; they are the only two!
When Crickets Cry takes you on a journey of a broken man that ultimately has a second chance at redemption and truly living. His heart still beats and pumps, but has been dead a long time. Charles Martin brings to life not only an enjoyable main character, but like all his books, even more exceptional secondary characters. Charlie was one of my favorites and of course Annie.
One of my only complaints about the book, like so many, was that it can get very technical at times with medical jargon. But as a whole and once finished, I actually didn’t mind it and was glad to learn some things and have an appreciation for the things doctors can do. But ultimately, I have a greater appreciation for the things that God can do to repair a broken and diseased heart.
