D.L. Wood: Unintended Witness (Book 2)

5 stars out of 5

With the second book of the “Unintended” series, D.L. Wood has crafted yet another edge of your seat thriller that keeps you guessing until the end. While Unintended Target took us through a whirlwind adventure from St. Gideon to Miami, Unintended Witness explores Franklin, Tennessee. One of D.L. Wood’s many strengths as an author is her attention to the setting of her story. She provides many vivid details of Franklin without ever veering away from the plot line. I always appreciate it when you read a book and feel like you are standing there alongside the main character. And speaking of characters, we once again get heroine Chloe McConnaughey drawn into a next to impossible situation; one with a bomber, dead bodies, kidnappings, and many beatdowns! This time around, she is paired up with Holt Adams, a likable lawyer who works with Claire’s estranged father (and we get to meet Chloe’s half-siblings!). Together, Chloe and Holt are chasing down leads to protect the people they love. Don’t worry, we also have Jack at various times in the story, a character I really enjoy and hope to one day see in a prequel from his Navy Seal days! The characters in the book were all very three-dimensional and realistic. The dialogue, like in Book One, rang authentic and I love that it was a clean read that explored God and faith and brokenness in a sincere and loving way. I’m also a sucker for alliteration in books and D.L. deftly delivers with perfect prose! The ending was extremely satisfying as all questions and mysteries throughout were answered. I would strongly recommend this book and can’t wait for Book 3 (or a Jack prequel!).
