While the romance in book 2 is not as cringe-worthy as the first (though close), there were still some moments where I rolled my eyes and tried not to gag. Scenes where Parker is looking at Avery's supple neck and wanting to kiss up and down it made me think that these characters were in desperate need of a cold shower or two. The mystery aspects of the book made it enjoyable, however, even if the ending had a plot hole or two once the obvious ending became apparent. I do think Parker and Avery are the most interesting of all the characters (with Tanner being the worst, especially considering that a future book will inevitably hook her up with Declan). I do think the dialogue could be improved in some areas; throughout both of these books, characters continually repeat what one character says, but do so in a question (i.e "I love her." "You love her?" "She makes me happy." "She makes you happy?" "I want to kiss her supple neck." "You want to kiss her supple neck?" *not actual dialogue but you get the point!)
All in all, I would rank this one slightly better than the first book and Dani Pettrey still left the door open for more stories of the Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated Gang (as I like to refer to them). Now I will have to decide if it is worth continuing with the series; as you can tell, the bad high school-like romance portions are hard for me to take at times and really take away from the overall story.
