Richard L. Mabry, MD: Silent Night, Deadly Night

4.5 stars out of 5

My first Richard L. Mabry, MD book and it does not disappoint! Even though it is a novella, it has plenty of suspense, red herrings, and plot twists. While it could have been fleshed out a little more as a full length novel, I did enjoy being able to finish it in only a few sittings. The story, which takes place around Christmas, is more murder mystery than Christmas story. It begins with the dead body found in the snow and ends with everything neatly tied together. There are some moments where things are explained that could have benefited from more explanation, but there were also little. clues throughout for a lot of it. There are a few plot twists and admittedly, I only had an inkling on one of them. My theory throughout the novella was thwarted about 55-60% through the book when the author brought up my theory as a possibility; that’s when I knew I must be wrong! Glad I was and a great job to a new author that weaves together a clean, suspenseful story with Christian elements. Looking forward to read one of his full length novels at some point.
